Debt consolidation questions?

Vanessa asked:

There is only one bad thing in my credit report and that is one student loan that is in default. I took this student loan over 6 years ago. It has been hunting me every since I drop out of College. I have made efforts to pay it, but I have been unemployed for a year now. The last payment I made was a year ago and I just received a letter saying that it is still in default status. I called the collection agency and told them my situation. I am unemployed, currently staying at home with my kid while I take classes online to get my degree. I told her we do not have the money to pay the balance. She wasn’t very helpful. I even told her that I want to make the effort to make payments, but I need a job and I can’t find one at the moment. I told her I will start making payments as soon as I start working.
Anyway, I was wondering if it’s possible to make a debt consolidation with my loan and my husband’s student loan. His student loan is also in default.
Any good info will be appreciated.

How do I get credit for student loan payments?

Lexi EB asked:

My grandfather co-signed a private student loan for me. Now that I am done with school, I am the one paying off the loan but since my grandfather co-signed it shows up on his credit report and not mine. Is there anyway for me to get this added to my credit history? Or is there something else I can do for the future, if necessary, to show that I have actually been making the payments and not my grandfather. Thanks!

How do I dispute the dates listed for a defaulted student loan that has been paid?

taragal asked:

I had defaulted on a student loan but re-payed it more than 10 years ago. On my credit report the loan shows as being opened 8/03 and closed 1/06 and originally reported as of 1/06. It wouldn’t allow me to dispute it because it’s been paid in full. How can the dept of ed report false dates and how can I get this corrected? Thanks!

Got my credit report yesterday?

ckfeeney@sbcglobal.net asked:

and there was an entry from a student loan consolidation company called Nelnet that I have NEVER done business with. I opened the first letter they sent me and after my husband and I figured out what they are, we shredded the letter.

How in the world can a company I’ve never contacted have an entry on my credit report?

What are some good debt consolidation companies?

tine105 asked:

I just recently pulled my credit report and have some charge off’s that I would really like to pay off in order to increase my credit score. I am very concerned with companies that try to scam you and you end up paying more in the end. I got myself into some trouble in college with opening up accounts and of course, not being able to pay them off. Now that I am in the working world I am looking for a good, reputable company to go with so that I can take care of some of the debt that I have as well as increase my credit score so that I am able to get better interest rates. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have spoken with creditsolutions.com and I am a little apprehensive because I am not sure if they are reputable and don’t want to sign on the dotted line yet without knowing the good ones from the bad.
