What is an acceptable/manageable amount of student loan debt?
Zizzler asked:
I have been going to community college for 2 years now, and I am almost maxed out on credits that will transfer over to a university. I have been working full time to pay for community college and now I am going to HAVE to transfer to a university to finish my degree (accounting/finance double major). The thing is, I don’t want to take out more than what I can pay on my current salary (20K a year), since a job is not guaranteed when you graduate now. How much should I take out in loans or would be a conservative amount? Thanks!

I defaulted on a private student loan in my youth. Will this affect my financial aid?
trixiedisco asked:
Will a private loan default affect my financial aid? I’ve never defaulted on a financial aid loan, only a private loan.

I totally want to pay back the default, but I can’t really get ahead until I get my degree. I’m not shady or anything, I’ve been killing myself without even making ends meet. My parents can’t help. If I could just get financial aid I could finish my degree and try to get a better paying job to pay off my student debt.

Is it better to cash out a 401k or borrow take out a student loan during a hard time?
Jeff S asked:
My husband lost his job and we don’t think he will get another job making as much money as he was. He has a 401k that we could cash out and pay off our debt. If we do that, we will be able to afford the necessities. Would it be better to take out a student loan t pay off this debt? Or cash in the 401k?

Credit Card and Student Loans?
Joe M asked:
Why is it that you can rack up a bunch of debit on a credit card and file for bankruptcy or get consolidation, but when it comes to student loans there is no help? I’m just furious that they bail all these companies out when the economies hurting but the poor kids coming out of college that can’t find a job aren’t getting help with student loans. BULLS$%# Oh yeah u can defer them and let the interest eat you alive. That’s a big help. No ******* answers please. Have a wonderful Wednesday

Student Loans debt?
Dumas asked:
So I’m graduating this weekend. I can’t find a job (I have a part time one now), my major is English, and I have 70k in student loan debt (10 of which is interest) I just completed my Stafford Loan exit counseling, and in order to pay these things off in the allotted ten years I will need to make 138k dollars/year. That’s not going to happen. To pay them off in 30 years I’m going to have to be making 70k a year, and I don’t see that happening anytime soon. What the heck am I supposed to do? I try and laugh it off and like to think that my best efforts will be enough, but it is starting to really get to me. Any suggestions?
