I have been working full time to pay for community college and now I am going to HAVE to transfer to a university to finish my degree (accounting/finance double major). The thing is, I don’t want to take out more than what I can pay on my current salary (20K a year), since a job is not guaranteed when you graduate now. I can’t find a job (I have a part time one now), my major is English, and I have 70k in student loan debt (10 of which is interest) I just completed my Stafford Loan exit counseling, and in order to pay these things off in the allotted ten years I will need to make 138k dollars/year. That’s not going to happen. To pay them off in 30 years I’m going to have to be making 70k a year, and I don’t see that happening anytime soon. What the heck am I supposed to do? But.. ive heard about debt consolidation loans and im confused:

1. do they lower your monthly payment?
2. Do they negatively affect your credit?
